Crews and voice

In camp1 to 4 playersVoice is optional3 min read

Run alone or with up to three others. How a crew comes together, what it shares, and how voice works in the camp and on the crew radio.

01Making a crew

A crew is up to 4 survivors who set out together. The camp is shared with whoever is online, so there are two ways to make one:

  • Walk up to someone and press F. They get a Join or Not now. If you have no crew yet, one is started for you.
  • Share the crew code, 5 letters and digits, shown at the convoy gate. Friends type it in at their own gate. Say it posts the code in the chat, where anyone can click it to join.

Going out alone is a crew of one, and works the same way.

02Setting out together

The host picks the destination and the threat tier at the gate, and everyone sees the pick; changing it takes everyone's Ready away. When the host boards, the convoy takes the whole crew out of the camp and into its run.

03What a crew shares

  • The exits. When one of you spots a way out, all of you know it.
  • The jobs. A job one of you finishes pays everyone who gets out after it.
  • Not your packs. What each of you carries stays your own, and there's no friendly fire.
  • What you drop. If one of you dies, what they carried drops where they fell, and another can carry it home.

Each of you calls the pickup and holds the zone on your own countdown, so you can leave one at a time.

04Voice

Voice is off until you turn it on, from the button beside the menu. Then you choose push to talk (hold V) or an open mic, and the browser asks to use your microphone.

  • In the camp you hear the people standing near you: within about 4 tiles, a few at a time, louder the closer they are.
  • In a crew you talk on the crew's own channel, in the camp and on the run, wherever you each are.

Your voice goes to the people you're talking with, straight from your browser (through a relay when a direct link can't be made). It never passes through the game server.

05Mute and block

Click someone's name over their head in the camp to mute them (you stop hearing them) or block them (no voice connection with them at all). For a crewmate, do it from the crew list at the gate.

06Chat

Press Enter in the camp to talk. Your line shows over your head and in the chat log at the bottom left. Lines are up to 80 characters, one every 1.2 s.

07If you drop out

If your connection drops during a crew run, your survivor stands where it was for 90 seconds. Reload the page to get back in. After that it's lost, and what it carried drops for the crew.

A server update brings you home. Before a game server goes down for an update, it brings every survivor still out back to the camp with what they carry.

New here? Your first run is a good one to do alone first.
